508,738. Tunnel furnaces. TRIGGS, W. W. (Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, & Cie.). May 9, 1938, No. 13747. Drawings to Specification. [Class 51 (ii)] An electrically-heated tunnel furnace comprises two parallel tunnels through which the charges are conveyed in opposite directions so that heat interchange may be effected at both ends between the incoming and outgoing goods, the tunnels being completely separated over the entire length of the furnace by a partition wall, and being used respectively for the biscuit and glaze firing of pottery. The partition wall is made of ceramic material in the firing-zones and of a good conductor such as metal in the end heat-interchange zones. The tunnel atmosphere may be circulated tranversely to promote heat-interchange in the end zones, or longitudinally to effect heat-interchange between the incoming and outgoing goods in the same tunnel.
