Abstract
508,631. Taps or cocks. LE ROY, [nÚe DE WINTER], M. J. L. Aug. 10, 1938, No. 23654. Convention date, Aug. 10, 1937. [Class 135] In a tap of the type in which a lift valve 8 is opened in the direction of fluid flow by a comparatively small displacement of the manipulating member 7, the valve is arranged in a substantially cylindrical part 2 of the valve body 1 and is carried by a sleeve 4 sliding on the cylindrical part 2 and forming a delivery passage for the fluid, the sleeve being moved axially by a pin 6 carried thereon and engaging a helical groove 5 in the part 2. As shown in Fig. 1, the cylindrical part 2 has a valve seat 3 at its upper end which may or may not be integral with the tap body. Within the sleeve 4, a tubular guide 11 is supported by cross ribs 12. The valve member comprises a rigid disc 9 with a tail 10 supported in the guide 11 and a packing disc 8 held in position by a snug 22. The pin or snug 6 is formed by the end of the operating handle 7 which is screwed into the sleeve 4 so that it is possible to release the sleeve 4 by unscrewing the handle 7. Liquid seeping between the sliding surfaces of the cylinder 2 and sleeve 4 enters chambers 18 formed in one or both these members from which it is sucked by passages 21 opening into the flared lower end of the cylinder 2. A uniform flow is ensured by the extended edge of the disc 9, by a metallic gauze 17 and by a jet-breaking device 15. The latter comprises a number of partitions which form a downwardly directed cone situated below the conical part 13 of the sleeve. The valve disc 8 may' be supported in a cup on the disc 9.
