[Class 135] A mixing - valve primarily for hot and cold water has a casing 1 with three coaxial superposed chambers 6, 7, 8, the middle chamber 7 which is the mixing chamber being separated from the two inlet chambers 6, 8 which have coaxial inlet ports 10, 9 by partition walls 4, 5 having cylindrical passages 13, 14 of different diameter surrounded by raised seats 15, 16 with which co-operate closure members 40, 45 of a valve unit 39 capable of independent rotation with respect to screw-and-nut means 29, 31, the valve unit being also formed with cylindrical plug lift valves 46, 44 which slide in the cylindrical passages 13, 14, the cylindrical plug lift valve 46 co-opeiating with the smaller cylindrical passage 13 being adjacent the closure member 45, whilst 'the other plug lift valve 44 is spaced from the closure member 40. The casing 1 has a discharge orifice 11, and is formed with a threaded projection 3 for attachment to a wall washbasin &c. The nut member 31 of the screw-and-nut means has splines 32 which engage grooves 30 in a sleeve member 27 screwed into the upper end of the valve casing. The nut 31 and the spindle 29 have co-operating two-start threads and the spindle is formed with a collar 28 abutting a packing gland 25 through which a reduced part 22 of the spindle passes. A parabolic cover 19 with wings 20 is secured to the part 22 by a screw 24 and serves as a handle. The nut 31 is received in a recess in the upper end of the valve unit 39 which can rotate relatively thereto due to cross pins 38 engaging an annular recess 36 in the nut 31. The unit 39 has an annular recess for the closure member 40 which may be of leather, and a threaded spigot 41 on which is carried a clamping washer 42 and a tube member 43 having an enlargement 44 guided by ribs 17 in the mixing chamber. A leather or other closure disc 45 is secured in the lower end of the tube 43 by a screw 46, the head of which forms the cylindrical plug lift valve co-operating with the passage 13. As the valve unit is raised, cold water from the inlet 10 first passes to the mixing chamber as the passage 13 is obturated by the plug lift valve 46. On raising the unit further, both hot and cold water pass to the mixing chamber and finally the plug lift valve 44 closes the passage 14 and hot water only can flow to the discharge orifice 11.
