[Class 56] [Also in Group IX] A roving is produced from a band or lap of glass fibres which cross each other at a constant angle by drawing the band through a tubular member in contact with a stream of fluid flowing oppositely thereto so as to render the fibres parallel. During production, the roving may be tempered. In one apparatus the lap 13 is first drawn through a member 2a by a current of air flowing therewith, the partially formed band 7 then passing through a heating tube 8a, a cooling member 2b and then through the tube 2c in opposition to an air stream.
