[Class 87 (ii)] A repress brick &c. moulding machine is provided with means for turning the bricks as they pass from the repress mould so as to bring a stretcher face uppermost for treatment by a rusticating tool past which the bricks are moved. The machine comprises one or more sets of preliminary and repress moulds 6, 7 in which the bricks are pressed by plungers 8, 9 carried by a reciprocating head 10. The bricks are fed to and from the mould by a reciprocating feed box which also pushes them past the rusticating tool along a table 16. The bricks are turned to bring the stretcher face uppermost by means of grippers 36 carried by the press head 10 which engage the upper rear corner of the brick. The grippers may be assisted by arranging the table 16 below the top of the mould 7 and providing a spring-controlled rod 43 on the head 10 to depress the front edge of the brick. The rusticating tool comprises an open-ended box 17 on the table 16, having three die plates 19 carrying pins 20 which pass through perforations in the box walls. The plates 19 are carried by bolts 23 from cross-heads and are spring-urged to a retracted position. The head 10 carries a projecting arm having members 29, 33 which engage studs 28 on the top plate and levers 34 actuating the side plates so as to cause the pins 20 to enter the box 17 and perforate the bricks therein. Hooklike extensions may be provided on the plates 19 or levers 34 which engage with projections on the members 29, 33 to provide positive retraction of the pins. In a modification, Fig. 5, the top plate 19 may actuate the side plates directly by means of cam plates 49, 50 and rollers 53. When two sets of moulds are provided, the box 17 may be divided by a longitudinal partition 35 which may be variable in size to accommodate different sizes of bricks. A conversion set may also be provided for attachment to an existing repress machine, said set comprising the rusticating tools and means for attachment to the press head for actuating the tools and for turning the bricks.
