Abstract
508,044. Stays; hinges. DIESTELKAMP, F. Dec. 24, 1937, Nos. 35799 and 35800. Convention dates, Dec. 24, 1936 and Aug. 17, 1937. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A casement window in which the sash 2 is capable of rotation optionally about one of its vertical edges or about its'lower edge, is provided with a stay 16, for supporting the sash when it is swung about its lower edge, which is connected at its upper end by means of a horizontal pin 15 to a vertical pin 14 rotatably mounted in a socket 13 attached to the window frame, the lower end of the stay being provided with a pin 22 which, when the stay is vertical, engages a bearing member 23 on the window frame, in order that the stay may serve as a hinge. As shown in Fig. 3, the pin 22 engages a slot 33 in a spring-load bolt 26, the lower end of the pin and the upper end of the bolt being bevelled to facilitate the interengagement of the two members. According to a modification, the pin 22 may be provided on the bolt 26 and the socket 33 in the member 21 secured to the lower end of the stay. The upper end of the stay may be connected to the window frame by means of a ball and socket joint, the socket of which is formed at the end of a screw which is secured in the frame. The stay is of hollow formation, a spherical or cylindrical block 17 attached to the edge of the sash being capable of sliding movement along the stay when the sash is swung about its lower edge. The lower corner hinge is provided with vertical and horizontal pins 9, 10, respectively, to permit the necessary rotary movements of the sash about its two perpendicular edges. The hinge at the lower edge of the sash comprises two sockets 3, 4, respectively attached to the fixed and sash frames, and engageable by a pin 5 which may be withdrawn from the socket 4 when the sash is rotated about its vertical edge.
