[A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, June 20, 1938.] [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] [Also in Group XI] In a furnace heating-element comprising a resistance rod 1 enclosed in a ceramic tube 4, each end of which is gas-tightly closed by an annular jointing strip 5 projecting from a connecting head 2 and soldered to the tube, an intermediate member 3, which may be of metal and integral with the head, is arranged between the latter and the end of the resistance and is of sufficient length or diameter to serve as a heat screen for the soldered joint. The intermediate member may be of less diameter than the rod. In a modificfation, the head and the intermediate member are provided with a cooling passage.
