Abstract

[Class 95] [Also in Groups IV, XVII, and XXII] A sheet metal container for the hermetic packing of beer, ale, or the like has a continuous lining of an interpolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate which is free of toxic materials, such as pigments, and is baked to the container body at a temperature below the melting point of any of the metal, e.g. solder, in the container, the lining being applied over a priming coat of a resinous material, e.g. an oil-modified synthetic resin such as a chinawood oil-modified maleic anhydride-polyhydric alcohol resin. The priming coat is applied as a solution e.g. in a mixture of toluol and xylol, and the interpolymer is preferably applied by spraying a solution thereof in a mixture of toluol and isobutyl ketone.
