Abstract

505,422. Sewing-machines. HUTCHINSON, O. G., and ARMSTRONG, E. W. Dec. 5, 1938, No. 35401. [Class 112] A sewing-machine hav. ing a take-up lever which projects from the machine head is provided with a guard covering the end of the lever while allowing free passage of the thread to the eye of the lever in all positions of the lever. In the form shown the cover 12, closed at the sides and front except for a thread opening 15 at the bottom, is hinged to the machine head at its upper and to allow access to the take-up lever 11 for threading purposes, and is held in the operative position by a catch 17 or by a spring incorporated in the hinge. Alternatively, the cover may be provided with wings sliding into channels in or on the machine head. A preferable form of cover, however, is provided with arcuate slots in its sides of the same form as the path of the take-up eye, so that the thread can pass directly to and from the eye in all positions ; this form of cover, not requiring to be detachable, may be screwed to or integral with the machine head.
