Abstract
505,383. Displaying dresses &c. HOWLETT, J. Dec. 6, 1937, Nos. 33686/37 and 3755/38. [Class 3 (ii)] [Also in Group XIV] A hollow-backed dress-supporting element resembling the front or side of a woman's bust is held at a suitable height whereby when a dress is placed over it, a woman standing with the corresponding part of her body within the hollow back of the device may, by looking in a mirror, ascertain the genoral effect the dress would have when being worn by her. In the embodiment shown, the dress-supporting element comprises a shell 1 of papier mÔchÚ or other mouldable material, adjustably mounted on a metal rod 2 set in a socket 4 on a foot plate 5 which may be mounted on castors. The shell is mounted on the rod by a sleeve 6 on which is pivoted a handle 8 provided with a cam 9 which when the handle is turned towards the rod, clamps the sleeve. In an alternative arrangement, the dress-supporting element comprises an open-work frame of tubular members. Moreover, it may be formed in two separate parts interconnected by lazytongs, telescopic tube connections or the like whereby its width may be adjusted.
