Abstract

505,365. Board games. LEE, W., and PALMER, R. V. Nov. 9, 1937, No. 30672. [Class 132 (ii)] Apparatus for playing a board race game comprises two boards one of which, Fig. 1, bears a training track 2 divided into sections printed with distinctive insignia or conditions appropriate to the training or preparation stage of racing, a number of distinctively marked symbols (horses or cars) for use by the players and adapted to be traversed over the sections to extents determined by casting a die, and a number of sets of cards printed on one side with various conditions, the other board, Fig. 2, being printed with a representation of a race track subdivided into sections to represent progressive moves for the symbols used by the players on the training track. The sections of the training track, Fig. 1, bear directions (operative when a player's horse is moved on to the section) as to payments to be made or other matters occurring during training, some of the sections also directing the player to draw a card from various sets of cards placed on four spaces 8, a central space 11, two spaces 12, 13, and two spaces 15. These cards comprise respectively four sets of coloured cards, each set of a distinctive colour and inscribed with advantages; a set of disadvantage cards which penalize the horse when transferred to the race track, Fig. 2; two sets of cards indicating respectively veterinary surgeon's reports and membership cards to an "Owner's Club"; and two sets of cards bearing reports appropriate to the trainers allotted to the opposing stables. Six spaces h for each stable represent horse boxes or stalls and the horses start and finish here in making a circuit of the training track. Paper tokens representing money are provided for making payments. The racing track, Fig. 2, commences in twelve sections 19 to receive the horses and terminates at a winning post 21. The movements of the horses (transferred from the training track) are determined by various colours on the sections of the racing track, and by the casting of a die, and in accordance with the possession by the player of advantage cards gained on the training track. These cards are placed on spaces 25. Possession of white (disadvantage) cards impedes the progress of the horse. In addition to coloured sections, the race track is printed with sections indicating advantageous and disadvantageous conditions. A pad or pack of cards, Fig. 11, may be provided for a player acting as totalizator clerk, a large number of tickets bearing the names of the horses also being provided. A set of cards bearing particulars of horses and trades and indicating the acquisition of horses, stables, auctioneer's practice &c., may be dealt to the players prior to the commencement of the game. The boards may be separate elements or may be arranged as a foldable assembly.
