Apparatus for playing a game comprises a board set out as a race track and a number of movable horses 12 each having a different symbol 13 imprinted thereon and a five dice 10 which can all be tossed within the confines of a fence 9 at one time the numbers on the faces of the dice corresponding with the symbols 13 on the horses, the horses being moved one place each time the associated symbol appears on the upper face of one of the dice. Each race is started at a flag 16 and a starting gate is laid in position on the track adjacent to the flag 16, the gate acting to handicap the horses according to weight, each horse being placed in the relevant position on the gate to start the race, the gate being then removed. For each race a card 7 is mounted on the end of the board and shows the length of the race, the starting weights of the horses and the amount of money a player may win if he wages to win place or show on any of the horses. Each player receives bills of different colours, a different colour to each player and these are used to place bets by placing the money in the player's selection chart 11 of the board 5. If it is desired to play a steeplechase game, model hedges are placed on the track and the horse's number must appear on at least two dice before the horse can jump or advance over the hedge into the next space.
