Abstract
505,269. Valve generating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 30, 1937, No. 21188. Void. Convention date, Sept. 19, 1936. [Class 40 (v)] A relaxation oscillator for producing symmetrical impulses of saw tooth or similar form comprises a single condenser C, Fig. 1, charged through equal resistances R1, R2 and discharged periodically through a. gas discharge tube or high vacuum thermionic valve V. The discharging action is effected by varying the potential on the grid of V, and, in the case of a television receiver this is done by applying synchronizing pulses to it. The period of discharge may be reduced by the use of a back coupled high vacuum valve, Fig. 5 (not shown). Fig. 4 shows the oscillator connected to one pair of deflecting plates PX1, PX2 in a cathode ray tube. The variations in potential between the plates of condenser C are communicated to the deflecting plates through the condensers CA, CB, the anode An of the tube being maintained at the mean potential of the plates by means of the resistances RA, RB. The Specification describes a. complete circuit incorporating the oscillator for both vertical and horizontal deflection of the cathode ray, all the required voltages being obtained from one source of rectified alternating current, Fig. 6 (not shown).
