Abstract
503,710. Pneumatic conveyers; delivering material from hoppers. HOLTZMANN, B., and OELLRICH, E. June 7, 1938, No. 16934. [Class 78 (i)] A refuse blower feeder, of the type comprising a rotary pocketed drum located between the delivery shoot and the blower pipe, has a frusto-conical drum 4 turning in a similarly shaped casing formed of upper and lower parts 1, 2 meeting on a horizontal plane. The drum shaft 9 is carried in bearings which allow of the drum being adjusted, and held, longitudinally thus ensuring an air-tight fit in the casing 1, 2. The shaft 9 at one end runs in a thrust bearing 10 and a supporting bearing 11, and these bearings are carried in bushes 13, 14 which have, as a unit, sliding freedom in the casing end but are prevented from rotating by grooves and tongues 17. To the bush 13 is fixed a hood 16 furnished with a threaded stub 18 screwing into a nut 19 rotatable manually either through bevel wheels 20, as shown, or by worm gear. The other end of the shaft 9 is slidable through its bearing 12 and through the boss 26 of its driving pinion 22. Keys 25 transmit the power to the shaft 9, and shear bolts 23 are provided. Fig. 1 shows packing in the form of washers 27, 28, but alternatively the end flanges of the wheel 4 may be surrounded either by a split piston ring pinned to the casing and fitted with adjusting screws, or by a frustoconical rectangular-sectioned helical spring held to the casing at its inner end and provided at its outer end with a size-adjusting screwed rod. All packing may, however, be omitted, and air-tightness attained by the bedding of the wheel in the casing. Escape vents for compressed air are provided in the upper part of the casing.
