Abstract

503,274. Wheel tyres. SEDLACKOVA, A. Feb. 23, 1938, No. 5781. [Class 144 (i)] A device for removing and replacing pneumatic tyres of vehicle wheels comprises an arm 7, for the-attachment of a suitable tool 8, pivotally mounted on a toothed disc 1, which may be secured by bolts 6 to the wheel body, and which is rotated to cause the tool to move circumferentially along the tyre bead by a pinion 10 on the arm 7, which meshes. with the teeth of the disc 1. To initiate the removal of the tyre, one end of a lever 13 is passed through a hole 16 in an upturned portion of the arm 7 and a hooked portion 14 at the other end of the lever is inserted between the bead and wheel rim, and the bead is raised by rotating a screw 15 which passes through the lever 13 and bears against the upper surface of the arm 7, until the bead springs over the tool 8 attached to the arm 7. The lever 13 is then removed and the withdrawal of the bead completed by revolving the arm 7 as described above. To replace the tyre, a tool comprising a roller with a concave surface which engages the tyre bead is attached to the end of the arm 7, slight pressure of the hand being sufficient to cause the bead to slip off the roller and to spring over the edge of the wheel rim as the arm 7 is rotated.
