Tyre covers, tools for removing and replacing. -The edges of a tyre cover are manipulated with respect to the rim by a tool having relativelymovable parts engaging the rim flange and the tyre edge respectively. In the device shown in Figs. 1 and 6, for assembling a tyre, a spindle 1 carries a hook 3 for engaging the rim-flange, a block 7 for engaging the tyre edge (or edges) being carried by a sleeve 6 adapted to slide on the spindle 1. The block 7 is advanced towards the hook 3 by a pusher 9 which is actuated by a lever 19 pivoted adjacent the handle 23 of the spindle 1. The sleeve Q and pusher 9 are normally retracted by springs 8, 11 respectively. Fig. 6 shows the operative end of the tool in use, the hook 3 engaging the rim-flange 29, and the tyre-edges 28 supported on the part 30. The arrow 31 indicates the direction in which the tool is to be swung to cause the displacement of the tyre in the direction of the arrow 32 and into the rim 27. Fig. 7 shows an auxiliary tool, comprising a hook 33 to engage the rim and a head 34 actuated by a screw 35, which may be used to hold one part of the tyre in the rim whilst another part is being assembled. Fig. 8 shows a modified appliance for use in removing the tyre. A hook-member 41 formed on the lever 36 is passed under the tyre-bead 28 (whilst this is in engagement with the rim 27) to raise same from its seat. The lever 45 is then raised, in the direction of the arrow 50, causing the pusher 42 to bear on the rim-flange 29, the relative motion between the parts 41, 42 resulting in the tyrebead being carried clear of the rim, as shown. By tightening the set-screw 51, the parts may be held in this position whilst a similar tool is used to detach a further part of the tyre.
