Abstract
501,328. Testing physical qualities of materials. BOSCH GES., R. Aug. 6, 1938, No. 23154. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1937. [Class 106 (ii)] Apparatus for testing torsional endurance wherein test-rods are clamped fast at one end and are moved to and fro by levers or the like at the other end, comprises a device wherein a number of test-rods 4 are disposed in parallel relationship with one end 3 of each clamped at 2, while the other ends 7 which are revolubly mounted at 9, carry levers 8 of different lengths, such levers being connected to a common reciprocating driving rod 17 or like means so that the test-rods are rocked to different angular extents. In Fig. 1, the levers 8 are provided with toothed segments which gear with the toothed rod 17 which is reciprocated by adjustable crank and link mechanism 19, 20 from a motor 18. The clamps and bearings for the rods are mounted on supports 21 at different heights above the base 1. In a modification, the rod 17 is not toothed and is a double rod having depending from each side a series of slotted arms along which may be clamped adjustable pins adapted to work in slotted arms or levers attached to the rocking ends of the test rods. The ends of the reciprocating rod or beam are carried by the upper ends of equal and parallel spring strips attached to the base.
