Abstract
501,039. Uniting by fusion. MONOTHERM VERSCHMELZAPPARATE, KONSTRUKTIONS-UND VERWERTUNGS-GES. May 14, 1937, No. 13713. Void. Convention date, May 15, 1936. [Class 83 (iv)] The metals or alloys to be welded are stirred and mixed during the melting stage by mean of an electrode. A film of vapour protects the melted surfaces. The electrode is moved rapidly relative to the' work. The source of heat, due to its material, may operate in a reducing-manner. The etectrode consists of pressed, retort carbon, graphite &c. of such high resistance that it becomes highly incandescent. The material 6 is gripped by massive clamps 2 of high melting point, e.g. cast iron. The electrode 5 is a pointed, inclined, or flat ended cylinder or cone, or a roll or wheel. It may have a negative temperature coefficient of electrical resistance. The electrode has a heat-insutated handle 1 and a copper cover 4 and may have a protecting-screen. The clamping-means 14, 16, Fig. 5, has a clamping-screw 15. Cylindrical electrodes with different profiles are shown.
