Abstract
500,781. Films. SCHERING AKT.- GES. June 1, 1938, No. 16444. Convention date, June 1, 1937. [Class 2 (ii)] A film made by depositing a solution such as a cellulose derivative solution upon a drum, wheel, band, or like support, removing the solvent, and stripping the film from the support, is rendered non-curling by subjecting the two sides of the film to treatments with solvents or swelling agents such that the side, which was in contact with the air during the setting of the film on the casting surface, is swollen more strongly than the other side, and the film is then dried. The operation of swelling may be combined with that of coating with a thin gelatine layer such as is required for photographic purposes. In an example, the wheel side of a cellulose triacetate film is'rinsed with a solvent mixture containing methylene chloride and methanol, and the air side is treated with a mixture of the same liquids but containing a higher proportion of methylene chloride. In another example, the wheel side of a cellulose nitrate film is coated with a mixture of gelatine, water, acetic acid, and methanol, and the air side is coated with a mixture of the same ingredients but containing a higher proportion of methanol.
