[Class 4] In a resilient mounting for a radial cylinder engine carrying an airscrew propeller, by means of two unequal systems of elastic members, wherein one member forms the centre of oscillation and the second member provides control of the oscillations, the engine has a rigid rear extension between which and the frame one of the elastic members is disposed at a distance from the plane of the cylinders materially greater than the distance of the other member from the plane of the cylinders. In Fig. 1, the rubber sleeve 3 forms a spherical connection between the extension 21 and the frame, the other end of the engine being supported by rubber blocks 22 which are vulcanized to plates on the engine and the frame and are arranged perpendicularly to radii from the centre of the extension. The sleeve 3 may be replaced by a rubber block, Fig. 2 (not shown), or a rubber ring on a transverse pin, Fig. 3 (not shown). The extension may be formed as a streamlined casing and the blocks 22 replaced by a vertical rubber ring, Fig. 4 (not shown). In Fig. 5, the engine 1 is supported in a fixed streamlined casing 27<1> by a ring of rubber blocks 32 at the rear side of the plane of the cylinders, and by an extension formed of stays 31 fixed at their further end to a rubber bush 3 in the nose of the casing. The positions of the'elastic members may be interchanged, and elastic members as described. in Specification 498,224 may be utilized.
