Abstract

499,707. Piezo - electric crystals. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 13, 1938, No. 14357. Convention date, May 14, 1937. [Class 40 (v)] Additional masses 2, 3, Fig. 2, are clamped to two opposite faces of a crystal 1 to modify its natural frequency. The masses may be of metal such as steel, aluminium or those known under the Registered Trade Marks "Elinvar" and "Invar" and the frequency may be adjusted by altering the amount of an additional piece of solder &c. 4 fixed to the member 2. The masses 2, 3, Fig. 3, are cylindrical and threaded reversely to be engaged by a clamping ring 8, or they may be flanged as shown in Fig. 4 and pressed on to the crystal 1 by rings 7 over which the clamping ring 8 is threaded. The ring 8 may be provided with fixing lugs. A spring mounting enabling the pressure of the masses on the crystal to be varied may be provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a "transformer" wherein several crystals separated by conducting or non-conducting discs are provided. It is also stated that the masses may be cemented to the crystal. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
