[Class 78 (iv)] [Also in Groups XVIII, X, and XIV] A modification of the apparatus for storing articles, as claimed in Specification 470,516, consists in suspending the carrier units a from overhead rails i. The units may be removably connected to covering headpieces e fitted with rollers h running on girder rails or on a single flat-section rail. The unit may be pivoted to the headpiece to turn about a vertical axis, and may be hung therefrom by a spring connection or by means which indicates its weight. The lower ends of the units may be guided by vertical rollers k running in grooves l at or above the floor level, or by eyes sliding over a wire, &c. or by sliding side buffers. Adjacent units may be hooked together or to a wall or floor &c., to prevent undesired movement, as on board ship or in an airship. The rails may be inclined to make the units tend to move to a normal position, and short laterally movable portions of rail may be provided to transfer units from one track to another. The units may be furnished also with under wheels for running on a ground track so inclined as gradually to raise the units off their overhead rails.
