Abstract
498,441. Lathes. POLLAK, J. E. (Pittler Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik Akt.-Ges.) Feb. 21, 1938, No. 5438. [Class 83 (iii)] Automatic mechanism for transferring workpieces from a magazine 8, Fig. 1, to a lathechuck 6 comprises a pivotal arm 22, which is also movable in the direction of its axis, and means whereby when the pivotal arm is in the work-receiving position and is moved axially towards the magazine an ejector 20, Fig. 4, simultaneously moves the workpiece towards the arm. Cams 4 and 4a, Fig. 1, on the main cam-shaft 3 of the lathe operate through levers to give the arm its pivotal and axial movements respectively, a rack and pinion is used also for the pivotal motion. The end of the lever-arm is provided with spring- retaining balls to hold a workpiece while it is transported from the magazine to the chuck. A rod 11, Fig. 4, adapted to contact a portion 23 of the arm when the latter is in the blankreceiving position is provided with a rack 13 engaging a pinion 14 which is connected by a friction coupling to a further pinion on the same shaft which is in turn engaged by a rack on the ejector rod 20. This axial movement of the pivotal arm towards the magazine produces the necessary movement of the ejector to push the blank from the magazine into the recess in the end of the arm.
