[Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XVI] In a machine comprising a printing-mechanism 16 for continuous operation on a web 10 of paper, cellulose film, metal foil, or the like bearing marks or perforations 47 preferably applied by the printing-mechanism, and one or more additional mechanisms 17, 21 for printing a second impression, severing transversely or longitudinally, scoring, perforating, embossing, die-cutting, or the like and means for feeding the web through the machine, there is provided a common drive shaft 18 for all the mechanisms extending longitudinally along the path of travel of the web and connected to the additional mechanisms through adjustable mechanism controlled by photoelectric devices responsive to the marks or perforations so as to enable an additive or subtractive increment of movement to be given to any of the additional mechanisms. One of the members of each of the additional mechanisms is driven by a corresponding worm 31 secured to a sleeve rotatably mounted on the shaft 18 and adapted to be driven from the shaft by sun-and-planet gearing enclosed in a casing 38. The casing is provided with a worm wheel 39 in gear with a worm driven by an electric motor 45, the operation of which is controlled by the marks or perforations through a photo-electric device 46. Mechanism may also be provided for effecting lateral adjustment of any of the additional mechanisms, this consisting of a yoke 49 carrying the mechanism and provided with a screw socket 51 engaged by a screw 50 rotated by a motor 58 under the control of a device 57 responsive to the position of the marks or perforations.
