Abstract

497,458. Testing colours of liquids. HELLIGE & CO., GES., F. Sept. 20, 1937, No. 25441. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1936. [Class 97 (i)] Apparatus for testing the colour of liquids, more particularly for the estimation of pH values, comprises a solid colour wedge or strip L as of coloured gelatine enclosed between a transparent front glass plate and a translucent rear glass plate mounted in upright position on a frame B having vertical guideways E in which is adjustable, e.g. with frictional grip, a slide F provided with a vessel O for the liquid to be tested, and apertures H<2>, H<3> for viewing respectively the liquid against the plain background N, and the colour wedge L. A third aperture H<1> may be provided for viewing a scale M, e.g. of pH values, formed, e.g. photographically on the inner surface of the front glass plate. For testing pH values, the wedge L usually consists of a scale, gradually merging from one colour into another. The glass plates may be mounted in a frame I detachably held by a spring in the frame B so as to be replaceable by a frame enclosing a different colour wedge. A vessel containing a colour compensation liquid may be inserted in an opening G<2> in the slide F. Reference is made to comparison devices employing a liquid coloured wedge or graduated colour standards arranged on a rotatable disc. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a colour wedge L formed by superimposing two oppositely directed wedges each of a predetermined colour, e.g. one violet and the other yellow. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
