Abstract

495,161. Skates ; casting composite articles. DORNSEIF, H. Feb. 15, 1938, No. 4682. [Class 132 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] In a skate consisting of a runner rail 1, struts 2, sole plate 3, and heel plate 4 cast in one piece of light metal, and a detachable steel blade 8, a core 5 is arranged in the runner rail to keep the cross-section of the light metal small at desired points. Cores 6 may also be arranged in the struts. The cores may consist of steel tubing and may all be welded together. The rear end of the core 5 is provided with a threaded member 13 carrying a hook 12 which engages behind a lug on the blade 8 to hold it in position. The core may in alternative constructions consist of artificial resin, wood, or metal other than steel. When hollow, the core may contain weighting bodies such as iron bars or sand. The core may also. contain a heater formed of a non-combustible porous mass containing an inflammable fluid.
