[Class 36] In a communication cable of the kind comprising a group of conductor units disposed within a screen and an outer group of conductor units disposed between the screen and the cable sheath, the gauge of the conductors inside the screen differs from the gauge of the conductors outside the screen, the two gauges being such that a balanced lay-up is obtained having the same number of conductors inside as well as outside the screen. The type of conductor unit within the screen may be different from the type employed outside the screen. To equalize attenuation losses, the conductors of the inner and outer groups of adjacent cable lengths may be cross connected.
