Abstract

494,975. Asphalt-mixing plant. BRAHAM, W. E. May 10, 1937, No. 13275. [Class 107] Relates to transportable plants for making asphaltic compositions, of the kind in which aggregate from an elevated drying drum 5 is discharged by gravity into a, mixer 15. According to the invention, the mixer, which is arranged at the discharge end of the drum, a dust collector 18 at the feed end thereof, together with one or more intermediately arranged bitumen boilers 16a, 16b, are arranged beneath the drum and on a common chassis. The drum shown is fed with aggregate by a detachable elevator 9 and terminates, at the discharge end, in a cylindrical screen 10 which separates the coarse aggregate from the fine. The screened aggregate passes into storage chambers 11, 12, thence to a weigh-bin 13, and finally to the mixer. Bitumen is supplied to the mixer through a pipe 25 and excess bitumen is returned to the boilers by a pipe 28. The aggregate' is heated by an oil burner 20, and the products of combustion are drawn through the drum and through the dust collector by a fan 19.
