Abstract

Plastic compositions, including refractories, containing sodium silicate as a bonding agent for plastic materials, e.g. clay or finely divided or granular particles, have incorporated in the mass from ,4 to 3 per cent, by weight of the material to be bonded, of one or more of sodium or potassium carbonate, bicarbonate, chlorate, nitrite or nitrate as anti-migration agent, i.e. to prevent migration of the silicate to the surface during the process of drying. Only the normal carbonate is effective when mixed with silicate in solution. For dry silicate the other reagents are used. Specification 4628/98, [Class 22], is referred to.
