[Class 132 (iii)] A mechanically propelled toy has means operable by the impact of the toy when colliding with an obstacle to change the drive from one speed in one direction of travel to a different speed in the opposite direction of travel. The slide o, Fig. 1, on impact with an obstacle when reversing, is moved to release the cross-shaped lever p which rotates clockwise under the action of the spring u to move the guide disc w on the spur wheel m and change the drive from the backward slow running gearing b, c, f, m to the forward fast running gearing b, c, f, g, i, m, Fig. 3. Reversal from forward to backward running is effected by manually moving the slide o or by impact with an obstacle of a pushrod provided at the front end of the toy which may be a continuation of the slide o. In the latter case the springu exerts a damping effect. Several modifications of the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 3 are described. In the construction shown in Fig. 4 the running axle k to which is secured the spur wheel m is carried in a stirrup n, pivoted at y, connected at one end to the slide o and extended upwardly into a weighted lever z which moves to the left and effects movement of the spur wheel m on impact of slide o with an obstacle. Changeover of running to the opposite direction can be effected by manual operation of the slide o or lever z or by impact with an obstacle of an extension of the slide o at the front end of the toy.
