Abstract
Stable preparations of vitamin A or D, or both, are obtained by incorporating a material containing said vitamin or vitamins, in which they are not cellularly bound, with a dry vegetable cellular material which has not been subjected to dehydration or chemical treatment and which has a natural fat content of at least 5 per cent by weight. The vegetable cellular materials used include coarsely ground soya beans, rape seed, and oats or ground wheat germs; the material used may be non-greasy and capable of being scattered or spread. In examples, (1) one part of a one per cent solution of vitamin D in sesame oil is mixed with 1,000 parts of wheat germs by rolling for 24 hrs. in a porcelain drum; (2) 10 parts of a vitamin A and D preparation, obtained by saponifying cod liver oil and dissolving the unsaponifiable constituents in an inert oil, are incorporated into 1,000 parts of coarsely ground soya beans.
