Abstract

493,475. Apparatus for removing rust, scale, &c. LUHR, F. A. Jan. 2, 1937, No. 21548. Divided out of 493,435. [Class 99 (ii)] Apparatus for removing rust, scale, &c. from metallic surfaces comprises a rotatable head 1, Fig. 1, upon which is rigidly mounted, preferably by bolts 2a having square portions 2a, a number of resilient tools 7 each in the form of a pack or block of spring-steel &c. laminae. in a modification, Fig. 2, the head 1 is provided with a number of axially-projecting bolts 3 each having a flattened mid-portion 4 to which the tools 7, 8 are pivotally secured by transverse bolts 5. Alternatively, one or more tools 13, 14, Fig. 5a, are pivotally mounted on each bolt 3 by a hanger 6, which may be provided with a stop 6<1> to abut against an axial projection 2<1> on the head and limit swinging movement of said hanger. Fig. 8 shows a further modification in which two tools 16, 17 are mounted in hangers, constituted by side plates 6<1> held together by bolts 13, suspended unsymmetrically on pivots 5 carried by the axial bolts 3. Yieldable material, such as presspahn, rubber &c., may be interposed between the laminae of each tool, and, as shown in Fig. 8, the individual laminae of a tool may have different-shaped working edges.
