Abstract

A fungicide composition is prepared by heating an intimate mixture of a copper salt, sodium carbonate and a hydrophilic clay, such as bentonite, in the presence of water, whereby complex basic copper salts are obtained in highly dispersed condition. Basic copper chloride Cu Cl2.3CuO.nH2O is formed by heating with bentonite suitable quantities of copper sulphate, sodium chloride and sodium carbonate, sufficient water being provided by the water of crystallization. Basic copper sulphate Cu SO4.3 CuO.n H2O is similarly obtained by heating copper sulphate and sodium carbonate.ALSO:A fungicidal composition is prepared by heating an intimate mixture of a copper salt, sodium carbonate and a hydrophilic clay, such as bentonite, in the presence of water, whereby complex basic copper salts are obtained in highly dispersed condition. Basic copper chloride CuCl2.3CuO.nH2O is formed by heating with bentonite suitable proportions of copper sulphate, sodium chloride and sodium carbonate, sufficient water being provided by the water of crystallization. Basic copper sulphate CuSO4.3CuO.nH2O is similarly obtained by heating copper sulphate and sodium carbonate. The sodium sulphate formed in the reactions serves to prevent "balling" of the dried product on the addition of water. The sodium salt of sulphonated lauryl alcohol may be added as a wetting-agent. Sodium pyrophosphate and also citric, tartaric and other acids and their salts may be added to the product to delay flocculation when mixed with water. When intended for use as a dry dust diluents such as china clay, talc, &c. may be added.
