Abstract

A bulky reticulated fibrous mass or structure reinforced with rubber or the like is made by causing a fluid bearing rubber or the like to extend itself as a foam through the interstices of a fibrous mass, collapsing the foam, and setting it. The rubber or like may be subsequently vulcanized. The fibrous mass may be fibres of horsehair, cellulose, asbestos, coconut fibre &c. bonded or locked together by an adhesive before being permeated by the foam, or may be woven or knitted fabric, felt, &c. Rubber-like materials specified are "Duprene" (Registered Trade Mark) and thiokol which is a reaction product of sodium tetrasulphide and ethylene dichloride. Specifications 341,936 and 455,138 are referred to.
