Abstract

490,755. Needles for knitting-machines. MORTON, SIR J., and PEEL, R. Feb. 19, 1937, No. 5064. [Class 74 (ii)] Fine gauge compound needles for knitting- machines are made from metallic tubing of small cross-section and fine bore such as is used for hypodermic needles. The needle comprises a hooked member a and a tongue d slidable therein, and both the member a and the tongue d may be formed from the tubing. The tubing for the member a may have an external diameter À025 inch and a bore À0125 inch, and the tongue may have a thickness À005 inch. The needles may be straight or curved. The members a may be supported in lead castings h in the carrier bar i, and the tongues may be embedded in metal or other sections f. In another form, Fig. 9, the members a may be held by slotted clamping plates m so that broken needles can readily be removed. The member a may be of stainless steel, and the member d may be of phosphor bronze wire.
