[Class 52 (iii)] In operating - tables of the type having a support frame for the table top adapted to be raised and lowered and tilted about longitudinal and transverse axes, the table top consists of a plurality of parts linked to and resting on vertically shift-. able members operated by means situated at the head of the table, whereby the top can be raised as a whole from the frame and two adjacent parts, e.g. the leg and seat supports, or the seat and back supports, can be separately adjusted. A supporting column 2 is movable in a base 1 by a pump operated by a pedal 2<1> and carries a longitudinal girder 3 rotatable on a transverse pivot 4 by a worm 21 engaging a fixed worm-wheel 22 and rotated by a hand wheel 17. The girder 3 carries a frame 5 rotatable on a longitudinal shaft 6 and adjusted by a hand wheel 24 which turns a worm 28 engaging a toothed segment 29 rigidly fixed to the girder 3. Resting loosely on the frame 5 are the leg plates 8, seat plate 7, back rest in two parts 9, 9<1> pivoted together, and head rest 10 removably attached to the back rest part 9<1>. The leg plates 8 and seat plate 7 are pivoted at the upper end of a pair of screwed rods 11 raised and lowered by nuts 35 formed as worm-wheels and rotated by a longitudinal shaft 30 turned by a hand wheel 31, the other end of the seat plate 7 rests freely on a member connected to the back-rest part 9 so that adjustment of the rods 11 alone alters the inclination of the seat plate. The inclination of the leg rests 8 is adjusted by a strut 14 and clamp 13. The back-rest part 9 is pivoted to the upper ends of a second pair of screwed rods 15 adjusted similarly to the screwed rods 11 by a hand wheel 36 through a longitudinal shaft 38. The shafts 30, 38 may be coaxial and adapted to be coupled for adjusting the screwed rods 11, 15 simultaneously. The back rest is inclined by levers 49, 50, Fig. 15, connected by a rod 48 with a nut 47 adjusted on a screwed shaft 46 by rotating the shaft through bevel gearing by a hand wheel 43. For adjusting the relative inclination of the two parts 9, 9<1> of the back rest a strut 9<2> is pivoted to the part 9<1> and adjusted in a clamp 9<3> on the part 9. The head rest 10 is adjusted by a strut 10<1> and clamp 10<2>. The seat plate 7 may be hinged down to free the space between the screwed rods 11, 15.
