Abstract

489,790. Fastenings; stays for hinged articles; chain couplings ; fence-posts supporting lamps; brackets. WETZLER, K. March 1, 1937, No. 6128. Convention date, Feb. 17. [Classes 24, 44, and 65 (i)] [Also in Groups I, XI, and XIV] A fastening device for detachable connecting an article to a peg, post, or suspension device comprises a slidable sleeve on the peg &c. provided with a slot engaging with and serving to retain the attached article in an inclined slot in the peg &c. The Figure shows a tent peg 1 of T-section having an inclined slot 4 in the central web, which is cut away at 2 to give a better hole in the ground, the upper end having a reinforcing cap 3. A ring (not shown secured to the guy rope, is engaged ir slot 4 and a sleeve 5 is moved down wards so that a longitudinal slot ( therein engages the ring and retains it in slot 4. The sleeve may be loosely mounted to fall into engagement by gravity, or it may have an interna plate-spring to retain it frictionally in any position so that when raised it stays raised to leave both hands free for engaging the ring in slot 4. Alternatively, the sleeve may be urged towards engaged position by a spring. Movement of the sleeve is limited by stops such as cap 3 and pin 10. The Specification also describes the application of the invention to a clothes post for retaining the clothes line in an inclined slot in the post, and to retaining a loop member of a hanging lamp in a slot in a vertically depending lamp support secured to a ceiling &c. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the application of the invention to fastenings for securing doors in closed or partly open position, to stays for hinged members such as lids, sky-lights, forcing frame covers, and backs, head-rests or other movable parts of furniture, to chain couplings, to frames for supporting shelves and to brackets or like supports for detachably holding notice boards &c. As applied to door fastenings, a stay-like member pivotally carried by the door has an inclined notch with corresponding sleeve for co-operation with a fixed projection to hold the door closed, and an oppositely disposed inclined notch and sleeve engaging the projection to hold the door ajar. As applied to stays, a curved or straight stay member has a series of notches selectively engaged with a fixed stirrup or eye secured by a sliding member on the stay. As a chain coupling, a notched member carrying the sleeve is permanently secured to an end link and is engaged with another link, or two such members, oppositely disposed, are connected together permanently by link or pivot, each. being detachably engageable with a chain link. As applied to shelf-supporting frames, vertical members having suitably spaced notches and corresponding sleeves detachably support horizontal members. As applied to supporting notice boards &c., the board has a downwardly projecting foot near the lower edge, adapted to be inserted in an aperture in a fixed bracket, and an upwardly projecting notched member with sleeve near the upper edge adapted to be detachably secured to a fixed eye &c. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
