489,186. Colour lighting. CLAUDEGENERAL NEON LIGHTS, Ltd., COLLINS, T. L., and HIGGINS, C. Feb. 5, 1937, No. 3488. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a system for colour lighting an area, such as the wall 1 of an alcove, by means of a plurality of concealed electric discharge tubes 2 arranged parallel to one another and adapted to emit light of different colours, there are disposed between the tubes 2 and the surface 1 a number of spaced parallel strips or battens of opaque or serni-opaque character. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the strips 4 consist of wooden battens arranged across the top of the housing 3, while Fig. 2 shows a construction in which the battens are assembled in the form of a cylinder rotatable around the tubes 2. Instead of employing battens 4, opaque strips may be painted on a flat sheet of glass or on the surface of a rotatable glass cylinder. In a further construction, a frame formed with a series of slots may be slowly oscillated between the tubes 2 and the surface 1.
