488,719. Fluid - pressure shock - absorbers; preventing lateral canting of vehicles. ARMSTRONG, F. G. G. Jan. 15, 1937, No. 1224. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] In inertia control means for a shock-absorber the setting element of the or each shockabsorber is connected to a piston displaceable in a fluid pressure cylinder, the variation in pressure in which is controlled by one or more pipe connections to a plug valve connected to the pendulum and making connection between said cylinder and a source of pressure difference. The control lever 22 is connected to a piston 20 in a cylinder 19 connected to the vacuum or lubricating oil pressure system through pipe 23 by the movement of a rotary valve 12 operated by a pendulum 13. The opening 15 in the plug may be graduated, the opening varying with the displacement of the pendulum. Bleed valves 24 may be provided to release the pressure in the system when the pendulum has returned to its normal position. Each shock-absorber may be controlled by a separate pendulum, or a pair of pendulums may be common to a pair of shock-absorbers on the same side of the vehicle, but at the front and rear ends thereof and adapted to swing through a vertical plane extending laterally of the vehicle.
