Abstract
488,374. Photographic developing compositions. GROVES, W. W. (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.) Jan. 11, 1937, No. 802. [Class 98 (ii)] An alkaline developer for photographic silver halide emulsions contains, instead of an inorganic alkali, a water-soluble oxyalkylamine having at least one alkyl chain containing two or more hydroxyl groups attached to different carbon atoms. Amino-derivatives of the sugars and carbohydrates having 5 and 6 carbon atoms and higher and lower homologues. Oxyalkylamines referred to are glucamine, methyl-, ethyl-, propyl- and dodecylglucamine, mannamine, galactamine, lactamine, fructosamine, arabinamine, xylamine, 1- or 2-aminopropane diol. Normal, fine grain, blueblack, brown, soft working, reversal developing compositions and developing compositions for use in the colour development process are referred to. The hydroxyl groups may be etherified or esterified, and internal ethers may be used.
