Abstract

488,158. Wireless receiving circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Dec. 9, 1937, No. 34143. Convention date, July 11. Addition to 472,739 and 478,775. [Class 40 (v)] In a radio receiver comprising high-frequency networks from which is derived a control voltage dependent on departure from tune with the incoming signal, and employing phase-comparison methods as in the parent Specifications 472,739 and 478,775, the two voltages whose mutual phase relation is compared are applied across opposite corners of a rectifier bridge. Fig. 4 shows a two-circuit band-filter L1, C1, L2, C2, coupled by a rectifier bridge G1 ... G4 such that the input and output voltages e1, e2, are applied each between one pair of opposite corners. The errorresponsive voltage u varies in sign and magnitude with the phase relation of el to e2. The bridge may be employed with filters of the kind having a common reactive coupling member, Fig. 5 (not shown). The network may comprise only one tuned circuit, the input then being shunted by an impedance the centre point of which constitutes one terminal of the control voltage u, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The control voltage may also be derived by comparing the relative phase of the voltage across a parallel circuit L1, Cl, Fig. 10, and a series impedance comprising capacity or inductance represented by L3, L4 arranged symmetrically. Alternatively a series-resonant circuit may be employed such as L, 2C, 2C of Fig. 12 ; or two seriesresonant circuits LC as shown in Fig. 14, the control voltage being taken off from the shunt impedances' Z0, Z4. It will be noted that all the circuits are symmetrical, and thus require an input voltage which is also symmetrical about a constant potential. A non-symmetrical input may be adapted for the circuits of the invention by using a hybrid coil, or by connecting the constant potential terminal of the input source to a centre tapping on an inductance shunted across the network input terminals.
