Abstract

488,042. Displaying - apparatus. GUEYDAN, A. March 16, 1937, No. 7753. [Class 3 (i)] [Also in Group XV] Window display apparatus in which wheeled vehicles or ships having uni-directional clutching means, e.g. brushes or stems, on their bases are placed on a vibratable member to be moved thereby, comprises a plurality of straight and curved parts which can be connected together in different ways to form different tracks. The parts, Figs. 1 and 2, each comprise a vibratable band 2 of cloth or paper, a base plate 1 and borders 3 provided on each side of the base plate to protect the edges of the band 2 and prevent the vehicles running outside the band. The bands 2 are joined together by hooks, clamps or other attachment. Bands of a length to stretch over a number of straight parts may be provided. In the curved parts the vibratable band is pivoted by means of a rigid element 4 mounted to rotate upon the base plate. Each vehicle, Fig. 3, has hingedly or resiliently mounted under its base a brush 5 of hairy material such as plush, resilient stems or thin wires bent rearwardly. Various ways of keeping the vehicles on their correct side are described, such as for example an embossment 6, Fig. 2. The bands 2 may have edges or rims instead of the base plates. The ends of the bands are connected to the base plates by means of springs 8 or other resilient attachments the tension of which can be regulated by screws 9. The bands are vibrated by a crank 7 rotated by hand or motor and engaging with a slotted element fixed under the band. In order to stop the vehicles the track may be provided with longitudinal slots through which small blades or wires can be raised to disengage momentarily the vehicles' brushes, or a thin blade may be slipped horizontally over the bands. Fixed or movable guides 10 may be provided on the bands. The borders 3 may be replaced by rails 11, Fig. 4, on which a toy train runs. According to the provisional specification switching means comprising a pivoted guide with adjustable spring control may be provided between the rails. The brush 5 may be fitted with shafts, Fig. 4, engaging with holes in the engine of the train for vertical movement to facilitate travel over uneven parts of the track. The curved band parts, instead of being pivoted, may be made of stiff material the sides of which engage with rollers to allow sliding. The engine of the train may be fitted with oppositely inclined brushes, Fig. 7, for forward or backward motion. Crossings, signals and sidings may be provided along the track. Parts of the track may be inclined, the band being maintained flat on the base plates by a roller placed on the lowest part of the band, or the band may be provided on its under face with an element having a longitudinal groove or slot in which a roller engages and slides during the band's reciprocation. The apparatus may be used to demonstrate the rules of road traffic, and when applied to window display apparatus may be used for showing the sea routes followed by ships. Specifications 302,220 and 313,482, [both in Class 132 (iii)], are referred to.
