Abstract
487,997. Photographic copying-apparatus. KODAK, Ltd. Oct. 22, 1937, No. 28865. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1936. [Class 98 (i)] In apparatus in which the copy - holder is pressed towards a platen, a brake becomes operative prior to raising the platen to resist movement of the assembly when the platen is raised, and means connected with the platen release the brake when the platen is again in its operative position. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the copy 44 is carried on plates 20 pivoted to links 40, 42 pivoted at 41 to a carriage 30 carried by rollers 31 engaging rods 29 on a support 18. Movable clamps 33, 35 limit the sliding motion of the carriage along the rods 29. The support 18 is carried by pivoted arms 21, 22, 23, 24, and is urged upwards by springs 103 to press the copy against a pivoted platen 77 connected by links 80, 87, Fig. 3, to a link 88 pivoted on a rockshaft 84 and moved thereby through a spring connection. The shaft 84 is connected by an arm 86 and link 83 to a crank 81 on a rotatable disc 82. The copy holder brake comprises a pivoted arm 105 engaging the carriage 30 and a pivoted brake shoe 106 having a nose 111 pressed by a spring 115 against a cam 118 on the shaft 84. The operation of the apparatus which is continuous is as follows :-With the crank 81. in the dot-anddash position in Fig. 3 the platen 77 will be raised, Fig. 2, and the shoe 106 will engage the small part of the cam 118 to clamp the arm 105 and hold the carriage 30. On rotating the disc 82 anti clockwise, Fig. 3, the shaft 84 moves the links 88, 87, against a stop 98 to lower the platen and, when this position is reached the cam 118 moves the shoe 106 clockwise to release the brake and allow the springs 103 to move the copy against the platen. Further rotation of the disc 82 effects the exposure automatically in the following manner. The shaft 84 is connected by gearing to a shaft 100, Fig. 2, connected by further gearing to a rack 63 carried on the camera 47 which is slidable on a column 12. The rack is connected to a film feeding roller 62 on the shaft of which is a cam 74 adapted to actuate a pivoted shutter 67. Rotation of the shaft 84 therefore causes the rack 63 to advance the film and to effect the exposure. Further rotation of the crank 81 to the dot-and-dash position, Fig. 3, causes the shoe 106 once more to engage the arm 105 and raises the platen 77. The cycle of operations can then be repeated.
