Abstract

487,565. Tilting - - furnaces ; electric induction furnaces. SIEMENS &, HALSKE AKT.-GES. Oct. 7, 1937, No. 27266. Convention date, March 24. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XI] A tilting-apparatus for a high-frequency induction furnace comprises a cylindrical jacket made in two halves 1, each of which is mounted by means of a trunnion bearing 6 on a carriage, the arrangement being such that the two halves can be moved to embrace the furnace for tilting it, or can be moved clear of the furnace during the heating operation. The tilting-mechanism includes a fluid pressure cylinder 9 connected up to one of the trunnions 5. In a modification in which the carriages move in a direction at right-angles to the tilting-axis, each half of the jacket is made in two parts hinged together, so that one part can be swung clear of the furnace before the carriage is moved.
