Abstract
487,546. Spectacle lenses. TENNANT, W. J. (American Optical Co.) June 15, 1937, No. 16655. [Class 97 (i)] The two parts 1, 3 of an achromatic lens of strong positive power, particularly for use with an aphakic eye, are secured together at complemental surfaces 2 intersecting a continuous optical surface 4 and have substantially the same indices of refraction but different dispersive factors. The part 1 may be a flint glass (index of refraction 1À61 and reciprocal relative dispersion 36) with a countersink surface 2 having a refracting power of 19À5 cliopters and a rear surface 5 having a refracting power of minus 3 diopters. The smaller part 3 may be a barium crown glass (index of refraction 1À61 and reciprocal relative dispersion 50) and the common surface 4 may have a refracting power of 14À07 diopters. The resultant power of the lens is plus 14 diopters and the resultant chromatic aberration less than 1/10 diopter. The compound lens may have a toric surface preferably on the ocular side.
