Abstract
487,509. Liquid-dispensing apparatus. AVERY-HARDOLL, Ltd., and FRASER, J. Jan. 9, 1937, No. 678. [Class 116] A liquid measuring and dispensing apparatus of the motor-driven flow-meter type, comprising automatic zeroizing means, is provided with motor control means in association with mechanism driven from the meter so that the motor is cut off automatically when a predetermined maximum quantity of liquid has been delivered, such cutting off of the motor entailing a movement of the mechanism governing the coupling of the zeroizing means to the indicating mechanism, whereby the zeroizing means is not brought into operation upon restarting the motor to complete delivery. The invention is described as applied to apparatus incorporating a pricecomputing mechanism as described in Specification 465,347, [Group XIX], and zeroizing mechanism as described in Specification 487,508, and in which actuation of the motor switch is effected by the rotation of a lever 17 upon removal of the hose nozzle from a spring-loaded lever 18 connected with the lever 17. A pinion 5 attached to the shaft 4 of the price-computing mechanism drives, through a train of wheels, a pinion 8, on the shaft of which is mounted a roller 10 which is adapted to engage with the arcuate surface 11a of a cam 11 pivotally attached at 11c to the lower arm 12a of a spring-loaded lever 12 pivotally mounted at 12d. A crank arm 12c of the lever 12 is connected by a link 16 to the switch-actuating lever 17. The cam 11 is furnished with a tail portion 11b which engages with a stop 14, the position of which is adjustable according to the maximum quantity to be delivered, whereby the point of engagement of the roller 10 on the arcuate surface of the cam 11 may be varied. Delivery proceeds until the roller 10 reaches the straightsided portion of the cam 11, at which point the lever 12 is rotated by a spring 15 to depress the link 16 and a rod 19 at the end of the lever 17 to cut off the motor. The motor is restarted by moving the end of the hose nozzle lever downwardly and then releasing it, the downward movement resulting in upward movement of the link 16 to cause the arcuate surface of the cam 11 to re-engage with the roller 10, and the upward movement resulting in upward movement of the rod 19 to close the motor switch. A pivoted lever 21, connected to the lever 17 by a link 20, carries a bell-crank member 22, 23, the end of the arm 22 normally engaging with a pivoted catch lever 26 to effect coupling of the zeroizing mechanism to the indicating mechanism when the rod 19 is moved upwardly to close the motor switch as described in Specification 487,508. The downward movement of the rod 16, when a predetermined maximum quantity of liquid has been delivered, referred to previously, rotates the lever 21 downwardly to cause the arm 23 of the bell-crank member to engage with the lower of two stops 24 and rotate the arm 22 into a position in which it fails to engage with the catch lever 26 upon the upward movement of the rod 19 when the motor is restarted to complete delivery, and thus the indicators are not zeroized. At the commencement of a subsequent delivery operation, movement of the lever 17 to close the motor switch results in the engagement of the arm 23 with the upper stop 24 and the arm 22 is consequently rotated into the position to effect engagement with the catch lever 26, and consequent zeroizing of the indicators before delivery commences. The invention may also be applied to apparatus in which zeroizing is effected by a hydraulic motor as described in Specification 471,486.
