Abstract

487,410. Refrigerating; heat-transfer systems. ELECTROLUX, Ltd. Dec. 21, 1936, No. 35060. Convention date, Dec. 24, 1935. [Classes 29 and 64 (ii)] The transfer of heat from a continuouslyoperating source of variable temperature to a heat consuming refrigerating apparatus intended to be maintained at a constant temperature is effected by a closed-cycle system, from which heat is dissipated when excess heat is received from the primary source. One system comprises a coil 11, Fig. 1 receiving heat from a stove pipe 10 or other primary source and connected through a coil 14 and pipes 22 and 13 with a vessel 23 adapted to be inserted as a heating cartridge in the generator of the refrigerating apparatus. The two riser pipes are connected by a U-pipe 21 and further pipes 15, 18 are connected with an air-cooled condenser element 16. Under normal conditions the heat-transfer medium circulates by convection and the level does not rise above the top of the pipe 15. If overheating occurs the liquid boils and the vapour formed lifts liquid with it up pipe 15 to the condenser 16, whence condensate returns through pipe 18, and thus the vessel 23 is byepassed. If the stove is out of action primary heat may be applied to the coil 14, as by an electric heater. In another system the generator 24, Fig. 2, is heated by a simple circuit heat-transfer system 11, 13 and further condensing heat-transfer system 25, 16 has its evaporator element 25 in thermal contact with the part 23. If the part 23 receives excess heat, it is dissipated from the condenser 16. The evaporator element 25 may, as shown, comprise a chamber around the central flue of the generator, and the usual " pumping " coil 28 may be located in it. It may, however, be in thermal contact only with the generator proper: If a viscous liquid is used in the first system described, the condenser element 16 may be open to atmosphere at the top. The control of the temperature of the refrigerating cabinet may be effected by supplying heat thereto in known manner. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, refers also to the use of the system for heating water. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
