Abstract

In the preparation of assimilable calcium preparations according to the parent Specification the composition may be so modified that the proportion of the electric conductivity of the mixture due to calcium ions is increased up to one-half of the conductivity of an equivalent solution of the calcium compound in water, in the case of preparations of acid taste due to the inclusion of an acid or acid salt. Such preparations, or those prepared according to the parent Specification may contain also non-assimilable ingredients such as latex, natural or synthetic rubber products, or chewing gum bases, such as that described in Specification 357,350. According to one example the preparation contains calcium lactate 3 parts, citric acid 0,2 parts, gelatin 2 parts, sugar 4 parts and water 90,8 parts. In the case of supersaturated solutions the proportion of colloids may be reduced, or they may be omitted. Such a preparation may contain calcium lactate 10 parts, citric acid 1,5 parts, saccharose 58,5 parts, and water 30 parts. The citric acid may be added after a solution of the other ingredients has been cooled, or the ingredients may be quickly dissolved together with heating, and the solution cooled and decanted from any citrate crystals that may have formed. Preparations in the form of oil-water or water-oil emulsions may also be employed.
