Abstract
486,307. Discharge apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and KNIGHT, H. DE B. Dec. 1, 1936, No. 32934. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVII and XXXV] A circuit-controlling device comprises a discharge device in which the gas or vapour pressure is periodically reduced by mechanically operated means to initiate a periodical discharge. The pressure may be reduced by increasing the volume of the device or by means of a pump connected thereto through valves which may be controlled by cams and may consist of perforated discs or grooved drums. Two discharge chambers comprise an electrode 2, Fig. 1, secured to a member 3 which is fitted with a cylinder 6, electrodes 8 mounted on movable pistons 7 and serrated insulating cylinders 5 which define the discharge space. The piston 7 may be replaced by a flexible diaphragm. The pistons may be operated by a cam on an engine crank-shaft when the devices 18, Fig. 2, are used in ignition systems to produce sparks across the points 17. As shown the devices are used to discharge and charge a condenser 13 through a transformer 14. The sparking-plug may be combined with the discharge device to form a unit. Specification 472,826, [Group XXXV], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 446,797.
