Abstract
486,235. Percussive drills. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP WALLRAMIT HANDEL MAATSCHAPPIJ. March 17, 1937, Nos. 7862 and 7863. Convention dates. May 11, 1936 and Oct. 5, 1936. [Class 124] [Also in Group XXII] Percussive drills are provided with cutting portions c of hard metal (carbides, borides, nitrides, or silicides of tungsten. molybdenum. tantalum, titanium) containing at least 8 per cent of an additional toughening metal (iron. cobalt, nickel, vanadium, titanium, chromium) and are provided with cutting edges having an angle alpha, Fig. 1. between the work and back edge of between 20 and 40‹. A central depression is provided at the centre of the tool bounded by wedge-shaped portions h, i. Fig. 3, the cutting edges so formed meeting at points f on each side of the centre line of the tool. The bottom edges n of the hard metal inserts are made parallel with the cutting edges d so that the whole of the expensive cutting portions may be used up. The width of the cutting portions diminishes from a width l, Fig. 5, at the periphery to a width m nearer the centre and the wings of the cutter may be of non-uniform shape.
